Allowances & support

Looked after, so you can look after.

Fostering is a profession. We back it with a fair allowance and a genuine wrap-around of support — practical, financial and emotional — for as long as you foster with us.

The allowance

Clear, fair, and reviewed regularly.

On average, Indigo carers receive around £450 per week, per child, for up to three children in their care. On top of that sit a range of additional allowances.

Holiday allowance

Support so children can enjoy holidays and breaks like any other family.

Activities & hobbies

Funding for sport, clubs, music and the interests that help children thrive.

Child essentials

Clothing, equipment and the everyday things a child needs to settle in.

Respite breaks

Planned respite as part of a sustainable, healthy fostering life.

Birthday & festival grants

So celebrations and cultural occasions are properly marked.

Reviewed regularly

Payments are reviewed routinely and set out clearly for every carer.

Figures are indicative and vary by the type of fostering and a child's needs. A full payments schedule is shared with every carer.

Wrap-around support

You're part of a team — never on your own.

The quality of care a child receives depends on the support around their carer. So we invest heavily in yours.

24/7 duty support

A duty social worker available evenings, weekends and bank holidays — real help, whenever you need it.

A named social worker

Your own supervising social worker, with supervision visits at least monthly and reflective, practical guidance.

Peer support groups

Regular groups that bring carers together to share experience and learn from one another.

Therapeutic input

Access to therapeutic advice and, where needed, commissioned specialist support for children and carers.

Training & development

A structured pathway including TSDS in your first year, plus specialist courses throughout your career.

Independent advice

Access to independent support (for example Foster Talk or The Fostering Network) whenever you need it.

The Indigo Learning Academy

Always learning, always growing.

Our training spans therapeutic foundations, the child's journey and professional practice — alongside statutory courses kept current, and specialist tracks for the children who need them most.

A dedicated online learning platform for carers and staff is in development.
